Laini’s Immunity Anti-Flam Drink

This hot or cold drink is one of my musts to look after myself. It’s a great morning pick-me-up, incredibly anti-inflammatory, supports the immune system and the liver, fabulous to get that digestion cranking in the morning, AND if you’re prone to bloating after meals due to not enough stomach acid, this bile-supporting drink will be your best friend.

This makes 2L which you’ll dilute to 4L. In our family we go through this in two days, but if it’s too much for you, you can easily halve the recipe above.

NOTE: I love to add a few dashes of MCT oil and cracks of black pepper. Good fats help us absorb a lot more nutrients from our food and the black pepper (less is more) helps the turmeric to be more bioavailable to our body.

UPDATE: Guess what?! I’m so excited about this. Since delivering content to you on turmeric’s top 4 health benefits (that have been extensively studied I might add), I’ve updated the recipe to amounts that mirror the recommended medicinal, functional dosage for all 4 benefits, with just 1/2 – 1 cup each day!:

1. Mood Booster
Turmeric has been shown to be as effective as some anti-depressant drugs in uplifting mood, without the side effects.

2. Flights Inflammation
Turmeric matches the effectiveness of some anti-inflammatory drugs, reducing arthritis symptoms and pain by over 50%.

3. Antioxidant Abilities
Turmeric boosts antioxidant capacity by neutralising free radicals and stimulating the body’s own antioxidant enzymes, effectively enhaving cellular health and reducing oxidative stress.

4. Heart Health
Regular intake of turmeric has been linked to a 65% decreased risk of experiencing a heart attack among bypass patients, alongside notable reductions in cholesterol and blood pressure.

How cool is that?! To really maximise it’s benefits for functional medicine use, split your serve into two half serves morning and night. So that’s 1/4 cup – 1/2 cup in the morning, and then again at night. And you can totally dilute that if it’s too strong for you. I find adding some water to it and for the kids – adding a little extra honey, does the trick. Easy peasy.

Laini's Immunity Drink

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Equipment

  • 1 Blender
  • 2 one litre glass jars or other container to store the elixir in

Ingredients

  • 6 Lemons juice of
  • 120 grams Turmeric fresh, skin on
  • 120 grams Ginger fresh, skin on
  • ½ tspn Cayenne pepper
  • 2 tspn Cinnamon Sri Lankan / True Verum preferred for health benefits
  • 2 squeezes Raw honey To taste. Add more if you need!
  • a few cracks Black pepper to increase bioavailability of turmeric
  • 1.5 litres Filtered water
  • 2 tbspn MCT oil Optional: Good fats help us absorb a lot more nutrients from our food.

Instructions

  • 1. Juice lemons and add to blender
  • 2. Add the whole turmeric and ginger. Don't worry about peeling them, just give them a rinse and chuck them in.
  • 3. Add cayenne pepper and cinnamon
  • 4. Add raw honey to taste. You can always add more at the end if needed. I usually add two long squeezes.
  • 5. Fill the blender to the 2L mark with the filtered water.
  • 6. Blend for a full minute, or until the liquid is bright yellow from the turmeric or it's nice and smooth.
  • 7. Store in two 1 litre glass jars.
  • 8. To make a cold drink, fill a cup half way with the elixir and top with water and ice.
  • 9. To make a hot drink, half fill a mug with the elixir and top with boiling water. I'll be the perfect temperature.
